Is Anyone Listening?

Posted on: August 13, 2007

By Barbara Orr

How pathetic it is to watch the national posturing for the people running for President of the most powerful nation in the world. Between the news media wanting to decide who will be our next president through their “polls”, and the brutal criticism of every president, we are presented with this circus every few years.

Currently the man who is president has never been accused of sleeping with anyone other than his wife or of any other crime. He did not cause the 9-11 disaster. He used his best judgment to protect the nation, which is his job. I wonder how many attacks we might have suffered if another wimpy whiner had been in office then.

I have watched the news media not consider basic character issues in candidates for more than 30 years, since the Vietnam era, and the impeachment of Nixon.

It does not matter if the person has provable character, they just have to look good in front of a camera. It does not matter if people have intelligence or the experience to manage a multilevel system like the Presidential office. It does not matter if the person has faith, and appeals to a Higher Authority for Wisdom. Wisdom after all is a gift of God, and cannot be attained by knowledge or study. Wisdom is all about timing and knowing when to do what and how to do it.

When I vote for any person, I always look for character and basic wisdom, Faith in God and a clear opinion about issues. I am not interested in any Candidate from any party who presents no plans for the future. For example: All of the candidates agreed with a citizen who can’t get health insurance that we need national health care, but the plan will have to do with dealing with the unbridled greed of the medical profession, and guess what, none of them have a plan.

Many of the candidates want the war to end in Iraq, I am much more interested in seeing a plan to win it.

Many of the candidates agreed with a fellow who had just returned from the war to find his factory closed and his job exported, but I want to see a plan to deal with the problems of corporate America, and the open import laws which are endangering people’s health and causing unequal competition.

For the most part, people who look good in front of a camera, obviously spend too much time in front of mirrors also. I am tired of the accompanying smoke also.

We know the problems, we as ordinary Americans are those who are suffering the loss of friends, sons and daughters, we are the ones who can’t find good jobs, or work two jobs without medical insurance. We are the ones who can’t afford health care, if we can get it.

Show us your plan for dealing with the problems, or shut up.
