The public demise of various politicians has been a fact of life in our voyeuristic society. In past generations the private lives of politicians even if questionable were never brought under the kind of public scrutiny that international news coverage and international television and websites allow.

In the past women like “Monica Lewinsky” were simply never given press coverage, and press coverage for any homosexual activity was out of the question. They were all considered “back door” persons. People whose opinions did not matter, people whose low moral values made them beneath the public radar. The prevalence of publishers publishing books ghost written for any low life willing to expose a famous person has changed all of that.

It is interesting that there is no longer a place for private sin in the public sector, especially among politicians whose views may be unpopular. There is no longer any protection from ex-wives or husbands, any protection from lovers male or female. The fact that truth may be in short supply in these books is incidental, they sell.

Because President Bush was a moral person, the news media found him “boring” compared to Bill Clinton, who at least was good for a laugh. If we consider the positive side of this, it is a good thing when someone has a pervasive problem, and is addicted to that problem that it be exposed. Whether the problem is young mistresses, alcohol, drugs, perjury, prescription drugs or any type of immoral or illegal sexual addiction .

It seems appropriate that the person no longer be in a position of moral responsibility, for the rest of us, such as an Idaho Senator of the United States Congress.
