Evolution: Life from crystals, lightning or aliens

“EXPELLED” SCIENTIST TAKES ON THE IDAHO VALUES ALLIANCE

One of the scientists featured prominently in the movie “Expelled,” PZ Myers of the University of Minnesota, posted and then attacked my Friday column – “Defeating Darwin in 4 Easy Steps” – on his “Pharyngula” blog, which you can read here.

The “Pharyngula” blog was also cited in the movie as one of the leading anti-Intelligent Design sites in the web world.

The blog dealing with my column had generated 247 posts by the time this edition of the Daily Update went to press.

Dr. Myers, of course, is a dispassionate, neutral and objective observer of the science scene, as the heading on his blog demonstrates: “Evolution, development, and random biological ejaculations from a godless liberal.”

(I believe, if I’m not mistaken, that Myers was quoted in the movie to the effect that we need to “kill religion.”)

Dr. Bryan Pogue

Thankfully, Dr. Myers has none of the elitism that’s slowed the momentum of Barack Obama’s campaign. Of the movie, Myers says it’s “going to appeal strongly to the religious, the paranoid, the conspiracy theorists, and the ignorant – which means they’re going to draw in about 90 percent of the American market.”

Unsurprisingly, Myers was unimpressed with my arguments against the theory of evolution, but then he’s unimpressed with any and all arguments against evolution, whether offered by creation scientists, advocates of Intelligent Design, or even fellow evolutionists, who often offer the most scathing critiques of evolutionary theory out there.

Some of you would like a version of my “4 Easy Steps” column to send along to friends. If so, here is a link to the column as it appears on the Renew America website:
