Gem State Voter Guide Now Live

Posted on: April 23, 2008

The Gem State Voter Guide for the May 27 primary is now up and running, which you may visit here. The deadline for candidates to return their questionnaires is this Friday, April 25, but we have posted the responses we have received so far. An asterisk (*) indicates a race in which we have already received a response from a candidate.

Responses will be posted as soon as they are received, so the website will be updated each day as questionnaires are returned.

At the state legislative level, there are 27 contested Republican primaries, which in many ways are more critical contests than the November election since the GOP winner on May 27 will in many cases be a heavy favorite in the fall. (The Democrats have no contested primaries for legislative office.)

All told, by my count 34 incumbents face no challenge either in the primary or the general election, and so are guaranteed a return to the Idaho legislature. The remaining 44 legislative races will be decided entirely in November as neither the Republican nor Democrat candidate faces a challenge in the primary.

For many in the pro-family community, the May primary is a more important time of choosing than November, because this may be their best opportunity to pick candidates who will share their values if elected to office.

The Gem State Voter Guide is a non-partisan guide. It contains no campaign literature, no endorsements, nor a list of the “right” answers. It provides objective information to Idaho voters on issues that are of concern to all thinking citizens.

Since it is a non-partisan guide, churches are free to direct their parishioners to this guide in church publications such as bulletins, newsletters and pulpit announcements. Please consider asking your pastor for permission to include a link to the Gem State Voter Guide in your church’s bulletin in particular.
