Although when the right quotes Scripture, they’re almost immediately tagged as something on the order of the American Taliban, apparently it’s just fine for the left to not only quote it in support of their pet causes but to actually make it up as they go.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in honor of Earth Day, said, “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.”
Well, her Old Testament quote simply does not exist in any way shape or form, not even as a paraphrase. But certainly, if you give yourself permission to concoct Scripture references out of thin air, it should be no surprise that you can make it support anything you like, include economy-destroying and poverty-inducing caps on carbon emissions.
Also, Ms. Pelosi, in a move that will cause advocates of evolution heart palpitations and consternation for all who called me names on PZ Myers’ evolution blog, says that “God made us.” Whoops! How ignorant and uneducated must she be?
Meanwhile, Earth Day activists in Canada had to move their rally against global warming into a tent after a blizzard forced them to abandon their original locations.
Said one forlorn alarmist, “We’re here to raise awareness of the problem even though on a day like today you don’t necessarily think of global warming.”
This April snowstorm represents the latest snowfall ever recorded in the Vancouver region, and more snow fell on an April day than on any day since the 1940s.
And finally, what to you do when you’ve got a showdown between redwood trees and solar power? A judge ordered a Sunnyvale, California couple to cut down two redwood trees on their property so their neighbor’s solar panels could access his “right to sunlight” awarded under a 1978 state law. The state Senate passed a bill yesterday that would grandfather trees planted before installation of a solar collector.
