Jefferson Elementary wins $1,212 in Jim Bruce Scratch for Schools
Pocatello/Chubbuck School District’s Jefferson Elementary School was the biggest winner in a local lottery competition. Idaho Lottery’s annual Jim Bruce Scratch for School competition was held earlier this month. The competition, which is held in several locations throughout Idaho, gives schools the chance to earn money by scratching as many lottery tickets as possible in five minutes.
Several schools from throughout the area formed teams which consisted of two scratchers and a coach. Each team was given 300 tickets and the task of scratching as many tickets as possible in five minutes. The Jefferson team won the first round.
The five teams that scratched the most tickets in the first round advanced to the second round, and were given another 300 tickets. Jefferson won the second round too! The top three teams then went to the final round with another 300 tickets and Jefferson again emerged the winner. As the winning team, Jefferson was given another 300 tickets.
At the end of the three rounds, every team was allowed to scratch all their remaining tickets to earn money for their respective schools. After winning three rounds and earning another 300 tickets, the Jefferson team was able to scratch a total of 1,200 tickets. One of those tickets was a $500 ticket and the team’s grand total was $1,212. Jefferson School Principal Jan Harwood said of the competition, “ We are really pumped, Jefferson rocks!”
