The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 is gearing up for the Fiscal Year 2008 budget process. The School Board met in a Work Session in School Superintendent Mary Vagner’s office Tuesday afternoon May 29, 2007.

The session began with the School Food Service Report. Dawn Stone, Assistant Dietician, Chris Young, Food Service Coordinator, Betty Espindola, Food Service Assistant Coordinator, and Bart Reed the Director of Business Operations addressed the board.

The School Food Service has 120 employees which include three drivers, one warehouseman, and six field supervisors. All Food Service employees are certified Food Handlers from the Southeastern Idaho District Health Department. There are 24 service locations in the district that serve 1,200,000 student lunches and 350,000 student breakfasts. Food Service strives to serve nutritious meals for all students.

Carl Smart, Director of Employee Services gave an overview of the budget. It is estimated that the levy for the 2007-2008 school year will be $11,641,711 up from $10,520,631 in 2006-2007. The budget will be tight again this year. There is a slight increase in student enrollment projected. It does not appear that there will be any cutbacks with the new budget.

The proposed Fiscal Year 2008 budget will be published June 8, 2007. The Idaho Examiner will have a link to the 2008 budget after it is published. Mary Vagner and Bart Reed also spoke about the budget.
