Got Luck?

What does it mean to be lucky? What does it mean to be unlucky? Being lucky is a matter of opinion, lucky for one may be unlucky for another. While winning the lottery would be great, nearly unlimited money combined with unlimited stupidity could be a detrimental union i.e. federal government. It may be best to consider the words of Mick Jagger when ascertaining luck, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need.”

A study in England found luck to be a matter of attitude. According to Dr Richard Wiseman the founder of the “Luck School” and a researcher at the University of Hertfordshire, there are four principles to being lucky. Dr Wiseman advises those seeking to change misfortune to something more fortunate to “expect good fortune.” He explains how this can be a self-fulfilling prophesy, a concept devised to explain how thoughts turn into reality. He also goes onto explain how bad luck can be turned positive, to follow our instincts and look for opportunities on which to act. The thought of luck being scientific is almost counter intuitive. After all isn’t luck based on chance?

In any case, good luck and may the force be with you, break a leg, live long and prosper, let your freak flag fly and think positive. If it helps, why not?!
