I Named My Cat Daffy

Here is another column about my two cats Tiger (Tigger with one g) and Daffy. Tiger is a long haired grey colored male Persian. Daffy is a tortoise colored female with short hair and a long tail who complains about everything. She is the one who throws up a lot. I call her Daffy because she sounds like a duck. The first time I saw her in the veterinarian’s office where I adopted her she was meowing in a low quacking sound. The first thing I said was “she sounds like a duck.” I decided her name should be Daffy like Daffy Duck. In this case Daffy the Cat or Daffy the Quaky.

Daffy loves to talk and sing. I believe she likes to hear her self. She sings in the litter box. She sings in the bathroom, in the corner any where she can hear an echo. I can be talking to someone on the phone and she has to get on my lap and offers her unwelcome opinion.

Tiger is the quiet cat. That is a good thing. Tiger couldn’t get a meow in edgewise. Daffy has to be the center of attention. What she wants goes.

The other day Daffy was sitting on the window sill facing my driveway. The window was open and the temperature was in the 60◦ (f) range. Tiger jumped up on the window sill next to her. Daffy did not like that at all. She hissed loudly to tell him in no uncertain terms he was not welcome. He promptly jumped down.

Tiger loves Daffy and he just wants to be near her. Once in a while they may share a chair together. One will sit on the back of the chair and the other down in the seat.

There is one chair that Daffy considers our chair. This recliner is where I hold her before going to bed at night. When tiger is sitting in it she complains to high heaven that he is in her chair.

Daffy has her own bed at the foot of my bed. There are times Tiger is curled up asleep at the head of the bed. Daffy wants to get in her bed and sees Tiger and she lets out a loud squall to let me know she doesn’t want him there. I wonder if she gives him a headache?

Daffy must be the most unique cat I have ever known. There can not be another cat that sounds or acts like her. How many people can say they have a cat, a duck and a spoiled kid all rolled up in one?

I will relate more tales of my cats in future features. Please standby.
