Activities Planned for May 22, 2008
The Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission is celebrating Historic Preservation Month by hosting three events on Thursday, May 22, 2008.
PV’s Pasta & Vino, 144 North Main Street, will be the location for the first two events – a brief training on the City’s Façade Loan Program at 4:00 p.m. followed by an awards presentation at 5:30 p.m. The last event of the evening is a tour through the Whitman Hotel beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the tour are $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family. The proceeds will go toward an interpretive sign for the Chief Mosaic that is located at 200 North Main Street.

About Historic Preservation Commission (HPC): This volunteer advisory board for the City of Pocatello was established in 1985. Their purpose is to conduct surveys of local historic properties; recommend methods and procedures to preserve, restore, maintain, and operate historic properties under the ownership or control of the City; recommend the lease, sale, other transfer or disposition of historic properties; participate in the conduct of land use, urban renewal and other planning processes undertaken by governmental agencies; recommend ordinances and provide information for the purposes of historic preservation; promote and conduct an educational program on historic preservation; and review and act upon applications for permits for building alteration, new construction, or demolition within designated historic districts. The Commission also plays a vital role in the City’s downtown revitalization efforts.
