Hearing loss affects millions of Americans, making it difficult for them to complete every day tasks. Just a year ago, a new technology was put on the market claiming to improve your hearing and all from the comfort of your own home.
Kelley Olenick, audiologist: “It’s a way to teach your brain to listen again.”
Doctors say it’s physical therapy for your ear.
A new program is available in Eastern Idaho, claiming to help those with hearing loss by hearing in the presence of noise. The program is called LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement) and you can do it at home, on your computer. It works by asking you questions, but each question has noise in the background, making it harder to hear.
Kelley Olenick, Audiologist: “The computer asks you questions with background noise. If you answer a question correctly the computer poses a more difficult listening situation.”
