CHUBBUCK-Jerry G. Hitchcock, 79, passed away from an extended illness Sunday, May 4, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born in Mountain Home, Utah, the son of Viva (Miles) and Montey Hitchcock on February 14, 1929. His early schooling was in Utah. His family moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he attended Pocatello High School.
He fought in World War II from 1945-1947. He reached the rank of Corporal in the Marines and specialized as a rifle sharp shooter. After an honorable discharge he returned home and acquired a job as a mechanic with Bannock Motors and then later with Garrett Freight Lines.
Jerry married Cavelle Young in 1949 and they had two daughters, Lynda and Brenda. They later divorced. In 1955 he met and married Eva Mae Hottel and they had one daughter, Margaret and two sons, Lee and Lynn. They were later married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Hitchcock; three daughters, Lynda (Gerry) Finch, Puyallup, WA; Brenda Wise, Portland, OR, and Margaret (Kimm) Waldram, Chubbuck; his sons, Lee Hitchcock and Lynn (Julie) Hitchcock, all of Chubbuck. He is survived by one sister, Una (Calvin) Jarmin, Blackfoot and an adopted sister, Terry Peterson, Tyhee. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Marcie Lewis, Amy (Jason) Rice, Kristy Waldram, Brian (Courtney) Greener, Janica (Ryan) Gillette, Ashlee Hitchcock, Michelle Sanders, Michael (Marcela) Hitchcock, Travis Hitchcock, Danielle Fisher, Dustin Finch, Brittney Peake, Caitlyn Peake and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Viva and Montey Hitchcock, his stepfather, Floyd Peterson, one sister, Jean Weeks, two brothers, Lloyd and Clarence Hitchcock.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Chubbuck 1st Ward, corner of Hawthorne and Chubbuck Road. Jerry’s family will receive friends and family at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave, Pocatello on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Friday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.colonial-funeralhome.com.
