EASTERN IDAHO – Weak high pressure will keep warm and dry conditions in place through Monday. Gusty winds will be a possibility late Sunday and Monday as a cold front approaches from the west. A large area of low pressure will settle over the region mid to late next week with much cooler temperatures, precipitation, and good RH recoveries expected.
· South Rainey Fire – Currently 5 acres. This lightning caused fire is burning in the old (1987) Spring Creek Fire area. This fire is being suppressed. There are currently 12 firefighters assigned to this fire.
EIIFC is managing five fires as Wildland Fire Use (WFU) Fires. All five are still active but increased humidity and cloud cover continues to keep fire growth to a minimum.
· Hominy Fire – This 75-acre fire was reported on August 29 and is located 26-miles east of Ashton, Idaho and approximately 20-miles northeast of Tetonia, Idaho. This fire is burning in heavy timber in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness, Teton County, Wyoming.
An Emergency Closure (area/road/trail) Order has been put into effect and will remain in effect until ruther notice. These closures are necessary to provide protection to forest visitors from the current fire safety hazards associated with the Hominy Fire. National Forest System Trails closed entirely or in portions in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness: FS Trail # 014 Hominy Peak Trail, FS Trail # 059 Hidden Lake Trail (trail is open from Coyote Meadows to Hidden Lake), FS Trail # 009 Conant Basin Trail, FS Trail # 025 Junction of #025 and #009 east to Carrot Knoll. National Forest System Roads located on Ashton/Island Park Ranger District: FS Road # 034 (heading southeast off of FS Road #264 – Jackass Loop Road)
· Bear WFU– There was minimal fire activity yesterday on this 3,050 acre fire. There are still pockets of heat with smoldering, creeping and single tree torching around the perimeter of the fire, especially on the southwest corner. 27 firefighters and aerial reconnaissance are managing this incident. The location is 15 ½ miles south and little west of Swan Valley. An area closure is in effect around the fire and shall remain in effect until further notice. CLOSED National Forest System Trails or portions thereof include: FS Trails #029, #040, #041, #042, #048, #049, #130, #144, #146, #147, #148 and #157. No change in the closure order is expected prior to 15 September 2007 depending on fire and weather conditions.
· Taylor WFU – Currently 3 acres, this lightning-caused fire is located on the southwest side of Taylor Mountain, 7 miles southeast of Victor, Idaho.
· Spring Run WFU – The fire is located 8 miles east and south of Palisades Reservoir and is .25 acres.
· Sherman Peak WFU – The fire is located 12 miles south of Soda Springs, a smoldering log with little potential to spread. The fire is .25 acres.
