EIIFC Fires – September 6th Evening Update

EASTERN IDAHO – Stage I Fire Restrictions will be lifted for zones 6, 7 and 8, starting Friday, September 7th. Please visit http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/prog/fire/idaho_restriction.html for an interactive Idaho Fire Restrictions & Closures Map and specific zone restrictions and closures.

EIIFC is managing Wildland Fire Use (WFU) fires. The area and trail closures have been reduced on the Bear WFU fire:

  • Hominy WFU – This 110-acre fire was reported on August 29th and is located 26 miles east of Ashton, Idaho and approximately 20 miles northeast of Tetonia, Idaho. This fire is burning in heavy timber in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness of Teton County, Wyoming. An emergency area/road/trail closure is in effect and will remain in effect until further notice. These closures are necessary to provide protection to forest visitors from the current fire safety hazards. CLOSED National Forest System Trails or portions thereof in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness area include: # 014 Hominy Peak Trail, # 059 Hidden Lake Trail (trail is open from Coyote Meadows to Hidden Lake), # 009 Conant Basin Trail, # 025 (at junction of #025 and #009 east to Carrot Knoll). National Forest System Roads located on Ashton/Island Park Ranger District and affected by this closure include: FS Road # 034 (heading southeast off of FS Road #264, known as Jackass Loop Road).
  • Bear WFU –Minimal fire activity over the past few days increased the size of this fire to 3,621 acres. A burn out was conducted on the southwest edge of the fire adding approximately 150-acres to the total. Aerial reconnaissance is being used to manage this incident. The location is 15 ½ miles south and little west of Swan Valley. An area closure is in effect around the fire and shall remain in effect until further notice. The following trails are entirely or partially closed: #041 Little Elk Mountain, #042 Deadman Creek, #048 South Fork of Bear Creek, and #130 Elk Mountain Ridge.
  • Spring Run WFU – The fire is located 8 miles east and south of Palisades Reservoir and is .25 acres.
  • Sherman Peak WFU – The fire is located 12 miles south of Soda Springs, a smoldering log with little potential to spread. The fire is .25 acres.
  • Ellie WFU – This single tree lightning fire is located near Upper Palisades Creek.
  • Elk Jensen WFU – Reported on September 5th, this .1 acre fire is approximately 6 miles due east of the Bear WFU.
