Idaho Falls, Idaho – Fire officials who have been managing the Bear Wildland Fire Use event have lifted all emergency fire area and trail closures starting Saturday, September 15, 2007. All Forest visitors need to be aware of hazards in the fire area, including numerous snags (fire weakened trees), rolling debris and a possible increase in fire behavior. The Bear Fire is located 15.5 miles south and west of Swan Valley, Idaho in the South Bear Creek drainage.
This 3,621 acre fire will continue to be monitored by firefighters on the ground and by aerial reconnaissance. Fire activity has been minimal due to past rainfall and cooler temperatures. Smoke may be visible near South Fork of Bear Creek Trailhead and within the Deadman Creek drainage. Fire activity may increase on hot and dry days burning interior portions of the fire.
The fire is consuming 30-40 % of vegetation leaving a random mosaic of burned and unburned areas. Idaho Department of Fish and Game supports this Wildland Fire Use event for the benefits it will provide to wildlife and their habitat. Objectives of the Wildland Fire Use fire are being met.
