For five dollars a truckload, you can expect limits of rainbows, bluegills and bass with the occasional perch and crappie coming to the net. With hundreds of rainbows stocked over the past few months by Idaho Fish & Game (208)-232-4703 and good precipitation during the past two years, expect this year to be a good one. Opening day weekend was a huge success as weekend warriors braved the winds and patrolled the shores looking to land a few bass with a mess of bluegills. Trout fishermen also faired well trolling near the dam and also the center of the reservoir in deeper water. Spoons, panther martins and pop gear brought fish to the net and filled limits. At this time during the spring / summer turnover, trout are more aggressive looking for an easy meal. Bank anglers should concentrate near the dam. A new product, Bobber with a brain has been very successful with anglers drop shotting for trout, bass and panfish form the bank. You can find this product at www.bigtentackle.com currently they are not stocked in retail outlets in the west. My pro staff and I have been using this and scoring on different species across southeast Idaho. It is a must for any bank fisherman that wants to fish on the bottom in any depth of water. Crappies have been coming to the net but the average size has been six inches and under. These were introduced illegally but should provide anglers an opportunity for another spiny ray species in the near future. Concentrate in the shallows near brush and structure. Where you catch one you can bet more are in the area. Bluegills are currently holding in the ten-foot area. They are in a pre spawn mode not quite ready to go into the shallows to spawn. Worms, grubs and micro jigs are working well fished under a bobber. You’ll find that most bluegills are in the five – seven inch range with a few eight – nine inches.Commenting is closed for this article.
