If you missed this event, you may have missed the outdoor event of the year. Rinehart targets out of Janesville, Wisconsin have been visiting select cities for the Rinehart 100 a 3D archery shoot consisting of 100 game animals from North America and a Safari shoot.
On June 9th and 10th Rinehart opened the gates up at the Pocatello Field Archers range off of Pocatello Creek road and 450 archers from around the country flooded in to participate on the event of a lifetime.
My pro staff Van Tillotson, Shawn Sayer, Dave Boyd and I got a sneak peek on Friday evening as we received the go ahead from Brad Rinehart, one of the owners to shoot the range while filming for the Western States Sportsman outdoor show. And did we have a blast letting arrows fly!
After we were introduced by Ed and Jeanie Bebee of the field archers to the Rinehart staff we put on our gear, flung a few arrows in the indoor range (which has a beautiful building full of game heads and shooting lanes) we headed to our first 3D animal of the day with our camera man Mike in tow (sorry Mike, but someone has to do our jobs but you did an excellent job for us, thank you).
First we took down a giant brown bear. With four well placed shots this animal was done. I did have an advantage as I was shooting the “NEW” Bowtech Gaurdian and Bear Archery the “TRUTH” bow by Primos. Both of these bows are well worth the money and got great reviews by all of us at the end of the day.
Next we shot two of the largest whitetail and mule deer bucks ever taken. Again, we brought these animals down with great shots to the vitals. We finally made it to the moose, and shooting placement went a bit sour. We all made kill shots but our shooting was a bit erratic at 30 yards. Although Van was shooting a new Bear recurve bow he had no excuse, just kidding Van.
We moved down the trail while Mike was filming and took shots at two bighorns. We nailed these rams with our Easton and Beamon arrows at 35 yards across a small gorge.
We new what was next and we hurried to our next kill. As we turned the corner a 13 foot alien was staring us in the face at 30 yards and we took him down with spine shots and heart shots. I think these were spine and heart shots, heck it’s an alien, I’ve never killed one before.
I will have to say with all of the products sent to us by Carter releases, Easton Arrows, Bear Archery, Muzzy Broad head’s, Interlock Broad head’s, Beamon arrows, Bowtech and Parker, we had to shoot well with equipment of that caliber.
The Giraffe which is 16 foot tall offered us a huge target but judging the distance was a trick. We all made kill shots (except Dave Boyd which nailed him in the neck and then the lungs) that built our confidence as we were shooting down hill at 45 yards.
We rounded out the day shooting giant bats, skunks, dinosaurs, baboons and other small game animals. It was a thrill for all of us as we passed the evening away watching the sun setting behind the mountain.
I would like to thank Rinehart Targets www.rinehart3d.com and the Pocatello Field Archers 233-5196 for the opportunity to shoot our show at this event.
Rinehart will be back next year and I encourage all to bring out your families and take advantage of this two day event. This is unlike anything you have ever seen and may never will again if you do not attend.
A special thanks to pro staff Dave Boyd for all the pictures he contributed.

The Western States Sportsman crew recently paid a visit to the Crow’s Nest Ranch near Mackay, ID to hunt pheasant and chukar. We had a great hunt there hunting the wild chukar that roost on the mountain above the ranch as well as the pheasant that the operators of the ranch raise for hunting.
