IDAHO FALLS – Even though Idaho has been hot and dry this summer, nesting conditions in Canada earlier this spring were favorable for the waterfowl that will pass this way in the fall. Because of these promising projections, IDFG is seeking comments from the public on how to get the most out of the anticipated 107-day season that should be authorized by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS).
Anyone in the Upper Snake Region with interest or comments should contact Regional Wildlife Manager Daryl Meints by the close of business on Wednesday, August 1. In the Idaho Falls area the proposed season for geese and ducks starts on October 6 and runs through January 18 of 2008. The same dates are also being proposed for coots and snipe. A statewide youth hunt is also again being proposed, this year on September 29 & 30, for those licensed hunters age 15 and younger. Specific species limits are still being considered and concern over pintail and scaup numbers may result in changes in bag limits from last season.
