Weston Reservoir

Where can an angler land a 12 inch perch, 18 inch rainbows and loads of largemouth bass in mid summer? Weston Reservoir near Malad is a good bet for anglers to bring all three species to the net. This is a very restrictive water allowing fish to grow to very good sizes and a few in the trophy class.

Weston is a gold mine for anglers looking to get away from the crowds and boat traffic but is not to far from the surrounding cities. With strict regulations this is by far your best bet to limit out on warm and cold water species.

Pocatello angler James Butler says the fishing is the best he has seen in years. “It was awesome fishing out of the tubes. We were concentrating deep with jigs for bass but 10 – 11 inch perch were tugging back,” he says. Butler did say although perch were biting bass were also coming to the net. “We did land a lot of bass in the 12 – 16 inch range with a few pushing 17 inches on small grubs and worms,” he adds.

Best bets were near the dam. Anglers who do not have tubes can concentrate on the face of the dam for both species.

Rainbows up to 20 inches were also present and again, grubs were working at this time fishing for bass but often brought trout to the tube side. “This is by far the best piece of water we have fished this year,” he says.

Bass fishing does not begin until June 30th with a two fish limit and none between 12 and 16 inches. No Tubes or rafts are allowed on this reservoir.
