Reservoirs across south east Idaho are in trouble, real trouble. The current drought has anglers scrambling to find fishable waters before Idaho Fish & Game (208)-232-4703 declares fish salvages like I.F. &G. public relations officer Jennifer Jackson did on my outdoor show concerning Winder reservoir. “Winder reservoir will be drained by the end of the summer. All limits and size restrictions are off, you can catch as many as you want at this point”, says Jackson. But, according to I.F. & G. supervisors you still cannot launch a boat even to salvage fish before they die off due to an agreement with the canal company. In the past March Fishing and Hunting News issue a few boys caught bass up to 6 ½ pounds, quality fish anywhere in the west. Anglers are ready to help transport these fish to Twin lakes which is only four miles away. “Dave, we’ll help any way we can, all you have to do is tell us when we can help and we will be there,” says SFW (Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife) member Burt Huth of Pocatello. The sportsmen are stepping up to help out Fish and Game knowing that their sportsman’s dollars are going down the drain by letting fish die in these reservoirs deemed for salvage. Twin lakes reservoir is fishing well at this point even with low water, about 15 feet below normal. On a recent filming outing Dan Boyd, Mike Ponkow and I scored on every species on the lake. “Crappie, perch, bluegill, rainbows and bass all came to the net, it was a good day on the water,” says Boyd. This wasn’t a typical day on the water; we were able to boat every species trolling the weed lines. “Reef Runners in a fire tiger color worked well and also the clear Reef Runner with a red prism worked very well landing a good portion of the days catch especially on rainbow trout,” says Ponkow of Pocatello.
