Including Season Dates And Other Hunting Related Details
IDAHO FALLS – As part of the federal delisting agreement, the states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming all included hunting as a component of their overall management plan for gray wolves. Biologists from the Idaho Department of Fish & Game will be meeting with the public to explain what delisting means in relation to how citizens can now interact with wolves and to help take part in the process to help create hunting regulations for wolves, in a similar fashion that is already done for other big game animals. On Thursday, May 8 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM, IDFG will be holding a public meeting at the Ashton Community Center to discuss with the public how the recent delisting affects them and what their rights as citizens are when it comes to dealing with wolves. On Monday, May 12, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, IDFG will be hosting an open house at their regional office in Idaho Falls to discuss with the public the various aspects of the hunting portion of the state wolf management plan.
According to Regional Wildlife Manager Daryl Meints, “Our open house will cover everything related to managing wolves as a big game species. We’ll discuss harvest strategies, season dates, permit levels, and reporting requirements.” The public meeting in Ashton will be more structured, in that a panel from IDFG will be available to answer questions and concerns from the public related to wolves in Idaho. “We also want to meet with the public and make sure that everyone understands how the new law relates to their lives and how they can legally deal with wolves.” said Meints.
Individuals with disabilities may request meeting accommodations by contacting Daryl Meints at IDFG at 525-7290 or through the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-3529(TDD). Individuals not able to attend, but wishing to comment may do so via E-mail at dmeints@idfg.idaho.gov or by regular mail to IDFG / 4279 Commerce Circle in Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401. All comments must be received by May 15, 2008.
