ASHTON, ID: The Ashton/Island Park Ranger District, plans to burn 150-acres of the 465-acre Staley unit just west of Henry’s Lake on Saturday May 17, 2008.
On Saturday crews will attempt to burn out the perimeter of the unit in order to prepare control lines for completing the remainder of the burn latter this spring or in the fall. Ignition will start as early as possible Saturday morning and will continue until all available perimeter has been treated. The entire project area is broken into 3 units; Raynolds unit at 445-acres, Upper Staley unit at 270-acres and Staley unit at 465-acres. About 150-acres of the Upper Staley unit was burned in October 2007.
The project is in the Centennial Mountains Subsection of the Targhee Forest Plan. The proposed project would result in improved age class distribution and occurrence of mountain brush species including snowberry, serviceberry, Rocky Mountain maple, Scouler willow and chokecherry. Project implementation would also improve the age class distribution and size of aspen. Late seral conifer stands will be avoided, allowing easier control of the burn.
Legal Description:
Staley unit: T15N, R42E, Section 1 and T16N, R42E, Sections 35 and 36.
All units are located in Fremont County, Idaho.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact the Ashton/Island Park Ranger District Office at 652-7442.
