Pocatello – The French gypsy jazz group Sarambalouf will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. The concert is part of the Idaho State University 2006-07 “A Season of Note” fine arts series.
Samarabalouf is a string trio from France. Members play original music in the spirit of gypsy jazz star, Django Reinhardt. Founded in 2000 by guitarist Francois Petit, this instrumental outfit has toured extensively throughout France, Belgium and the rest of Europe. Comprised of rhythmic guitars, a double bass, and most recently an accordion, Samarabalouf has developed a repertoire of works stretching from the boogie-blues to Flamenco rock, integrating such popular themes as the waltz, tango, rumba and the slow, with the occasional subtle flashes of Middle Eastern harmony.
Tickets are $18 or $24 and are available at the Stephens Performing Arts Center Box Office from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or may be reserved by calling the Box Office at 282-3595.
