RIRIE – Despite a fairly mild winter, anglers were able to have an enjoyable time this year during the special ice fishing only season at Ririe Reservoir, but as early spring conditions caused the ice to disappear prematurely, anglers are reminded about the special season ending date of March 31st.
The special season has been in effect for twelve years now, so most local anglers are aware of the regulations pertaining to this fishery. The area that had been open to ice fishing extended from the dam upstream for approximately one mile of the Juniper boat ramp.
The rules pertaining to the special season call for ice fishing only, no other methods are allowed. Without the ice, the season was effectively closed anyway, so that the end of March date is a mere formality. Regulations developed concerning the winter use of Ririe Reservoir were developed in cooperation with IDFG, Bonneville County and the United States Bureau of Reclamation. Concern over winter wildlife habitat was the driving concern behind the specific dates involved.
The entire reservoir will reopen to fishing on May 1, 2007. For further information regarding fishing in the Upper Snake River contact the regional office at 208-525-7290 or visit their spot on the IDFG website at:
