Perhaps Government Officials have Just Gone Insane

I just watched the governor of Minnesota standing in front of a failed bridge, Talking about how many times the bridge had been inspected in the last few years. It was rated structurally deficient, and was only a 4 to 5 on a scale of ten, so it wasn’t scheduled to be replaced until 2020. It collapsed, killing 30 people in 2007. I’m sure the fact that it was being inspected on a regular basis was a great comfort to the people who died under it.

The purpose of government has been forgotten. The purpose of government is to provide safety and protection for the citizens, with a focus on what is best for the common good.

Some examples of the insanity currently in place in our nation:

Government is to be a support system for business, not a business itself. Examples of this are fees, public systems which should be free, which are mostly tax supported charging higher fees for services than private companies which offer the same benefits. Government should never be involved in anyway in any service which can be provided by private enterprise. Government should also never be in competiton with private enterprise.

Government is to be a physical protection for the people. Police and Military and National Guard are hampered often times by politicians who have forgotten the vital role they play in preserving our freedoms. We have become a nation of political wimps who can’t seem to a face the fact that life in prison, and the death penalty to heinous criminals is for the protection of the rest of society, these are not people who have made a “mistake.” They also forget that war is a fact of the reality there are always people who would oppress to death the rest of the world, if they could. Could our current day politicians have defeated Hitler?

Government officials who claim that it’s “all about the children” have developed welfare, healthcare, and foster systems which prevent healthy development in children and keep them from becoming successful adults. The school system has become an extension of the failed welfare system, supporting social systems to the degree that real education is being neglected. The basic purpose of education is to help parents create useful productive law abiding citizens

We currently have a crisis in the mortgage banking system because the government supervisory systems for lending have become so lax, we have check cashing car lien loans, and other lending agencies which were illegal in the past, and the ARM loans are only a set up for disaster for most families, the role of government to protect the poor and the ignorant from financial predators has been given over to greed, legislators will care when it affects their own retirement funds and only then.

Government care of national parks and open lands are to preserve them for the use of citizens and future generations, excessive fees, environmental restrictions, and restrictions of photographing with video any national park are great examples of the mind set of the people who get involved in this government area. They begin to think like land owners, and many experimental efforts to gain more control over the lands they are supposed to be just preserving are a result. If logging of downed trees, and thinning of forests in an environmentally responsible way occurred, we would have fewer catastrophic forest fires, and a healthier logging industry.

Perhaps it happens before they are elected, perhaps it is a happening from the complexity of today’s problems, but we are being governed by people who think paper action like an inspection has the same merit as a physical action, like funding and building a safe bridge. That hiring a consultant has the same merit as making a decision, that starting a war, the same merit as winning it. That monitoring a situation has the same value as preventing it. That locating or tracking a criminal has the same value as jailing him.

Clinical insanity is when people lose touch with reality….hmmmm.
