Washington, D.C. â National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4th though May 10th and Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson along with his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives took some time last night to recognize those who inspire future generations.
âEveryday educators inspire, teach, and make a difference in our lives. Iâm grateful to have the opportunity to express my gratitude for their work and dedication,â said Simpson.
The House of Representatives passed the following resolution today:
âA resolution recognizing the roles and contributions of Americaâs teachers to building and enhancing our nationâs civic, cultural and economic wellbeing.
âWhereas education and knowledge is the foundation of Americaâs current and future strength;
âWhereas teachers and other education staff have earned and deserve the respect of their students and communities for their selfless dedication to community service and the future of our nationâs children;
âWhereas the purpose of National Teachers Appreciation Week (May 4 â 10, 2008) is to raise public awareness of the unquantifiable contributions of teachers and to promote greater respect and understanding for the teaching profession;
âWhereas a number of organizations representing educators, such as the National Education Association and the National Parent Teacher Association, are hosting teacher appreciation events in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week;
âIt is the sense of Congress to thank and promote the profession of teaching during and to encourage students, parents, school administrators and public officials to participate in teacher appreciation events during National Teacher Appreciation Week.â
