States Working On Academic-Freedom Legislation Re: Evolution

    Posted on: May 09, 2008

Perhaps pushed along by Ben Stein’s new movie, “Expelled,” at least five states are working on bills that would give teachers and students the opportunity to critically analyze evolution in the classroom without fear of reprisal.

Casey Luskin of the Discovery Institute, who was of great assistance to me in preparing for a debate against an ACLU attorney last year on this subject, said even Darwin would approve of such legislation.

“Charles Darwin himself said that fair results could only be obtained by fully balancing and stating the facts and arguments on both sides of e ach question. What these bills seek to do is to restore Charles Darwin’s approach to teaching evolution – to teach it in a balanced, objective fashion.”

When Idaho revisits its standards for teaching science, lawmakers should be asked to ensure academic freedom in the Gem State’s public schools.

Don’t forget that a generous donor is offering a complimentary copy of the DVD, “The Privileged Planet,” for every donation of $100 or more to the work of the IVA. It features the work of Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez, who argues that the Earth looks suspiciously like it was designed for life.
