IVA Joins National Campaign to Counter Evangelical Rush to Global Warming Alarmism

    Posted on: May 16, 2008

Some in the evangelical community have joined the rush to hop on the bandwagon of global warming hysteria, a movement which threatens a biblical understanding of man’s relationship to the environment and is based on faulty science to boot.

In the Judeo- Christian tradition, man is God’s vice-regent over all of creation, with responsibility not only to be a good steward of creation but also with the authority to develop natural resources and use them to meet the needs of humanity.

But global warming alarmism, by trying to drastically limit if not remove man’s imprint from the created order, is harming families by raising the cost of everything from food to fuel and harming the world’s poor in the process.

The obsession with turning food into fuel has contributed to a 25% jump in the cost of food worldwide, creating unconscionable hardships for those who can least afford such increases.

A countermovement is underway, entitled the “We Get It!” campaign, with a goal of collecting one million signatures on a statement which says, in part, “Our stewardship of creation must be based on Biblical principles and factual evidence. We face important environmental challenges, but must be cautious of claims that our planet is in peril from speculative dangers like man-made global warming.”

The statement goes on, “With billions suffering in poverty, environmental policies must not further oppress the world’s poor by denying them basic needs. Instead, we must help people fulfill their God-given potential as producers and stewards.”

The Idaho Values Alliance is proud to be a partner in the “We Get It!” campaign, out of our concern that unbiblical ideas about people and nature are creeping into the Church, and that the poor in the U.S. and around the world will suffer as a result.

If you go to the website (see link below), you will see the Idaho Values Alliance listed on the “Endorsements” page as a supporting organization, along with the Family Research Council (Tony Perkins), Wallbuilders (David Barton), the Institute for Religion and Democracy, the Acton Institute, and the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention among others.

Supporters of the declaration include James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Senators James Inhofe and Tom Coburn, and Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, among many others.

By signing the “We Get It!” declaration, you can demonstrate that you support biblical perspectives on the environment and the poor and don’t believe the media hype on this subject. Here’s your chance to do something to slow down the runaway global warming train. Please visit the website and sign the declaration today!
